DEK 1888 - 1912
DEK I/161
While we had several examples of DEK I/161 in our photo library, we could not identify this decoration until we made a special trip to the Passau Glass Museum in 2015 to photograph and study their DEK examples. There we were lucky to find one DEK I/161 mark that had survived! Without the generosity and kindness of Peter Höltl, owner of the Glass Museum Passau, who allowed us to remove many pieces from the museum's glass cases so we could research and photograph any signatures or DEK marks that might be present on various pieces of decorated Loetz on exhibit at the museum, much of the history and documentation of this glass would be unavailable to collectors. We are all indebted to Herr Höltl and the Glass Museum Passau for their preservation of this glass and their willingness to collaborate with members of the Loetz.com Advisory Group to help share this history with Loetz collectors from around the world.
Note: This DEK is also a good example of how difficult it can be to determine the exact numbers that are written. The mark on the PGM vase looks like it could be "I/167" but we know from archival documentation that this mark is actually "DEK I/161".
