Décors Index A-Z
Orbulin - 1900
Pink, crete or green ground with applied Silberiris. Decor identified by Deb Fitzsimmons
Note: This decor is similar to Diaspora but instead of the final step being the application of a coating of iridescence over the piece when it is taken out of the mold, Orbulin is created by briefly reheating the piece after the iridescence is applied causing it to melt further and stretch across the "Diaspora" depressions leaving "holes" or "Orbulin" looking formations. The name of this decor, like many of the names assigned to Loetz decors during the 1900's, reflects elements found in nature. Evidence of "Orbulina" have been found in the Vienna Basin which is known as a "Pull-apart" basin because sediments deposited in the basin provide a timeline of activity along the fault.
We have also included examples of this decor that we believe were produced post 1912 and have assigned these examples to a sub-category entitled "Orbulin New". To illustrate the differences between the "Old and "New" Orubin, please look at the side x side photo of these two decors incuded here.
