Papillon - 1898

Candia, Crete, cobalt, dark blue, opal, orange, ruby or yellow ground, marvered with silvery-yellow (oil spot) granules. One of the most common of all Loetz decors, especially in cobalt, Candia or Crete.

Note: The Papillon decor, like Norma and Silberiris, was a popular decor and in continuous production from its inception. While the basic decor description remains the same for each of these decors, there are visible differences in the appearance between the earlier and later executions.of these decors.  Even though we have created a subcategory entitled, ""Papillon - Art Deco"", the Loetz archives refers to all of these examples simply as ""Papillon"".
