Silberiris - 1899-1900

Candia, Crete, or cobalt (occasionally brown) ground. Thickly applied silvery yellow powder renders the glass opaque and gives it a characteristic deep iridescence.

Note: While iridescent glass was produced by many glass manufactures during the time period from 1900 - 1925, Loetz excelled not only in the quality of their iridescent glass but also in the use of exotic shapes to compliment their plainer decors such as Silberiris.  This is especially evident in their "extruded handle", "tree-trunk" and "marquetry" productions.
